Brother Benicio first fell to the Black Rage before the battle of Raukus IV, a small planet located in the Segmentum Pacificus, and was sent into battle wearing his assault armour and jump pack. He was gifted the ancient chainsword known as Blood Screamer, and equipped with his plasma pistol he tore a bloody path through the heretics and mutants that had beset the planet and corrupted the populace. After the battle was won, High Chaplain Appollus managed to gather up and subdue most of the Death Company marines, and brought them to the Death’s Cowl, where they were put in statis chambers in preparation for the next conflict. Benicio had lost his right arm and most of the flesh of his left, and his chainsword had been broken against the thick plating of a Chaos Dreadnought, but he survived, and was given the honour to fight another day. However, he was deemed too insane to be trusted with a jump pack again, and so was clad in the armour of his brothers in the assault squad, and given a new right arm.
The Rage has now consumed him fully, and it is only a matter of time until it becomes too much even for the High Chaplain to control. One day death will come for him, and whatever remains of his body will be enshrined aboard the Death’s Cowl, in remembrance forever.
Everybody knows that Inferno Pistols are the coolest weapons in Warhammer 40K, right? If your Space Marines can use them, just do it. If they can’t, you’re playing the wrong army. I’ve got Blood Angels, so I’m safe. But the problem is that there are never enough of them in the kits, so eventually you’ll have to make your own. It’s easy, though, if you have the parts.
First you take a Grav Pistol, because nobody uses them, and you have dozens lying around. Cut the barrel off, and do the same thing to a Combi-Melta. It’s gonna be fine. GW nerfed combi weapons in 10th, so there’s no reason to use them anymore. Glue the combi barrel to the pistol. Almost done.
The OG Inferno Pistol has this little detail on the side, and lucky for us, the combi weapon also does. Carefully cut it off the combi weapon and glue it to either side of your DIY pistol.
I think it looks pretty good! And you can finally have a real hard hitting squad of flyboys with swords and pistols. And it’s thematically correct, too. One last thing.
You can use the barrel from other types of Melta weapons, this here is from an Eradicator that I cut up for other purposes. It’s a bit bigger, but doesn’t look too goofy, actually. Go nuts.
2023 was certainly one of the years ever. For me, personally, it was a year of great creative energy, and full-on soul-sapping dredge at the same time. I wish I had played more music and more board games, but instead I used most of my free time doomscrolling and drinking. Oh, and I built, painted, and played lots of Warhammer too. Can’t forget about the Warhammer.
We (two colleagues and I) finally got round to playing Kill Team, and had lots of fun, but not as much got played these last couple of months. Let’s blame it on the fact that we all work retail, and this year has been hectic, to say the least. Nevertheless, we managed to get in a few matches. I was the only one who tried out different teams, though. The Intercession team was definitely the best – almost too powerful – but I think the Kroot or the Veteran Guardsmen might be my favourites, mostly because they’re thematically more interesting, but/and also because they open up for more play styles. The Intercession team basically just allows for charging forward, killing everything to gain the advantage. I also got my ass kicked by the Kommandos, which was fun.
For the last couple of years my main armies in 40K have been Tau and Flesh Tearers. I’ve planned and built out my FT army a lot this year, but sometime in November I realised I have too many Blood Angels bits that will go unused, and too many older models (the so called “Firstborn” type), so I decided to build a regular Blood Angels army too. And after a couple of weeks of work I have built almost 3000 points, basically without even trying. A fun way to make use of all the plastic I’ve bought over the years. 2024 will mark my sixth year in the hobby, by the way. My Tau army hasn’t seen any work at all in 2023, but I’m gonna keep on working on it this year, probably.
This post was originally going to have images mixed in with the text, but WordPress does weird and confusing things sometimes. Just going to have to put them all in a gallery at the bottom.
One other game I really got into (but haven’t played yet) is Mordheim. Turns out my friends have lots of old Mordheim stuff, and since the rules and everything are online nowadays, it was real easy getting into. I decided against trying to source the older models, and just went with the modern Age of Sigmar and Warhammer Underworlds models. They look better anyway.
Addendum 24–03–18: I can’t even remember writing this post. And the images I was thinking of displaying? No idea what they were. Might as well just press Publish now, and move on to the next shiny thing.
Last year I made a list of the 50 most important albums from my life, with one song (Meeting Across the River and Jungleland belong together) from each. I think I managed to keep it to one album per band, too.
There are a couple of songs missing (no streaming money for assholes) and I might have missed some, like Kanye West and Mayhem and Snoop Dogg, etc. Whatever. The order of songs, apart from the first, the last, and the two Springsteen tracks, doesn’t really matter. I tried not putting two 20-minute prog tracks on top of each other.
Har tryckt i mig lunch, fick till och med ungen att äta lite. Han ser på David Attenborough-doku om fisk, och snart ska vi till biblioteket och låna hundra böcker. Men först: kaffe.
Ice cold winds and blizzards, creaking ice, stormy waters, constant hunger, isolation, disease and death, provide the basis for the music, depicting the immensity and scale of these great white landscapes.
